Context
A global investment bank needed to modernise an internal platform used by supervisors and reviewers to manage high volumes of trade-related alerts and sign-off responsibilities. The engagement combined stakeholder research, workflow analysis, co-creation, design-system integration and user testing to make critical work easier to identify, prioritise and complete.
The delivered direction reorganised alerts around urgency, introduced clearer personal and team views, and simplified the path from review to individual or grouped action.
The challenge
The existing platform contained dense dashboards, overlapping routes and a large volume of colour-coded alerts. Supervisors and reviewers had to scan, filter and move between multiple areas before they could understand or complete a task. Inconsistent interactions, limited personalisation and unclear status logic reduced confidence and added effort to time-sensitive review. The challenge was to make priorities and available actions easier to understand while preserving the control, permissions and traceability required in a regulated operating environment.
Approach
The engagement was structured across discovery, production, testing and delivery. The current platform was assessed end to end before questionnaires and one-to-one interviews captured how different roles worked, where delays occurred and which functions provided little value. Findings were organised by product area and separated into technology, information-architecture, logic and interface themes.
Research synthesis converted this evidence into focused problem statements and user stories. Collaborative workshops used current-state playback, an impact-and-effort matrix and rapid sketching to align stakeholders and prioritise the most valuable opportunities. Detailed workflows mapped role-specific decisions, dependencies and permitted actions from alert receipt to resolution. Design options were then created within the organisation’s design system and tested with users, allowing the preferred interaction model to be selected and refined before delivery.
Solution
The redesigned experience organised alerts into overdue, due today, due tomorrow and upcoming work. Personal and team views, expandable groupings and clearer filters helped users focus on immediate responsibilities while retaining oversight of the wider workload.
A restructured work queue improved search, sorting and grouping, supporting both individual actions and batches requiring distinct comments or follow-up. Shared components and interaction patterns connected the dashboard, work queue, archive and related review journeys, creating a more coherent path from discovering an alert to resolving, escalating or requesting additional information.
